Perspective don't work after v28 upgrade

Hi All,

This is my first post here, though i've been lurking around for a while reading lots of excellent posts!

We (my wife and i) currently own two Bimmers: '06 X5 3.0 - wife's and a '97 540' - mine. I do a lot of mods to my 5, but usualy not to my wife's X5 since it is leased.

So, on to the problem, yesterday, i've decided to upgrade to Nav OS v28 on the X5, downloaded from one of the posted links in the other thread, burned it, installed everything went smoothly, still in US mode, no problems what so ever. Except one. Perspective does not work.
I enable it, but after switching back to GPS, maps are still in reagular 2D overhead view, I go back to Settings, Perspective is still enabled but still no dice...

Do i need 2007.1 DVD in order for Perspective to work? The DVD i have is the original DVD that came with the car. Not sure which version, but the truck was bought in September of '05.

Can someone help please?

Thanks

When you are in the map view, click the knob to pull up the map menu. There is a selection for Map Positioning. Select that, and then you can select pointing north, direction of travel, or perspective view.

Yep that did it, thank you very much.

Another question, when in perspective mode i don't get any street names at all, only route/highway numbers when go to higher scale... is that right, or something is wrong? Or am i missing another setting?

thanks again

perspective mode needs to be enabled in 2 places, in the arrow map pointing menu and the hidden setup menu.

Goto the menu screen select setup (or settings) and hold menu button for 10 seconds, when the hidden menu appears scroll down untill the perspective mode option is selectable.

As for the street names etc, in perspective mode you don't get street names etc, the nav computer is not cleaver enough to "tilt" the names database entries.

Unfortunately, you lose the street names when you are in perspective mode.

The E65 does use a totally different nav computer. The MKIV doubled the CPU speed over the MKIII. I'll bet that the E65 nav computer is at least twice as fast as the MKIV. Therefore, they are probably using that extra speed to render street names in perspective mode.
