v28 w/ British female voice modification questions
I am looking to modify the standard v28 so that it has a British Female voice instead of the US female voice. I currently have the v26 with the British female voice and would like to upgrade. This is for my e46 M3 although it seems like it is the same for all Mk IV systems. From my searching I have found 3 ways describing how to do this and just want to make sure I do it the right way. Like I said I just want the voice changed not the language (so units remain in feet etc.). I realize the below are for older versions but I assume the idea is the same for v28. I read the thread about Navtweak but it appeared that there is an easier way to accomplish what I am requesting. #1 "I would say that you can just rename the files to your liking. for example in the MKIV use the following path \V_2\Voices\0506 Change the usa_f.csf to what you want. for example gb_f.csf to usa_f.csf and vice versa. That would be easier than modifying the voice.lst file and the voice.lst file checksum" #2 "So navigate to the V_2/Voices/0502 rename usa_f.csf to usa_f.bak rename gb_f.csf to usa_f.csf V_2/language/0103 rename usa4f.tsf to usa4f.bak rename gb4f.tsf to usa4f.tsf" AND V_2/language/0105 rename usa4f.tsf to usa4f.bak rename gb4f.tsf to usa4f.tsf #3 So navigate to the V2/Voices/0502 rename usa_f.csf to usa_f.bak rename gb_f.csf to usa_f.csf V2/language/BMWOCN rename usa4f.tsf to usa4f.bak rename gb4f.tsf to usa4f.tsf Again these all seem to point to changing the files the same way but I am wondering if there is a need to change the language files if all I want is the voice changed. Any assistance would be appreciated. If anyone has done this and could send it that would be even better. Thanks in advance! |

You could always use the navcoder1.1 and have the language selectable in the nav menu?
just a thought |

That would be a way to do it as well but it is alot more invasive and then I would need to get the i-bus interface. It seems like for what I am trying to do it would be easiser to modify v28 and just burn it to a disk.
If I don't find the answer I am looking for I may have to go the navcoder route. Thanks. |

It has been done, and looking at your solution in the first post it looks like it will work, just swap the voice you want with a one you dont, but make sure its an english one as you may well turn on the text as well.
If you are just changing from usa to gb then you should be OK. Good luck
