Homemade iBus adapter

I made the adapter as per the instructions in the navcoder zip. I am wondering if there is any real difference between this one and the one for sale. The one for sale has IC and a lot more components on it.
I have not used it yet, plan to install a DICE HD this weekend and will throw in the plug-in adapter I made for it then, just wondering if there is any downside or other issues to be concerned with using the homemade version?
Thanks all
Matt
