X5 and problem with MKIII 3 1/63 no more GPS

Hello,

As I live in Paris, I was first into a French forum and find a way to upgrade my actual version up to V27.

If I tried to upgrade is because I had some troubles with my screen that switch off and on frequently. The dealer BMW says that is it a problem of GPS Calculator and I have to replace it (around 2000 euros).

Unsteadily I preferred to make some "hand made" upgrade and see!!!

Now, after a while I succeed to have on the screen SOFTWARE UPDATE, ... but no Progress bar, after some minutes, I got System will reboot,..

Then I got a "blue" screen without any GPS function!!!!
Now, I wanted to have an old for Backup but can't find any old version.
I saw in that forum some links but the file is not here anymore.
I think a V24 could be good as a first backup!!

Is there anyone able to help me finding such version or send me some recommendations or advices?

Many thanks in advance

With a MkIII, all disks V22 and later will take you to 3-1/63. So for you to go "backwards" you'll need a disk older then V22.

Hello,

From France too, I can tell you my experience :
I upgraded my MKIII from V20 to V24.1 a few months ago. I had the message Software update ... and nothing happens.
When I reboot the car, I had a blue screen like MSDOS, with the radio, the TV, the phone working, but no more gps.

I tried many things, but I finally bought a new MKIV on ebay for about 450 euros. Now I upgraded to V28 with no problems and I use a home made 2007-1 europe map with french radars.

I think you have to replace your mkIII.

The blue screen you were seeing is the OS contained within the video module, which will take over if the nav drive fails or the vehicle cannot detect it is there.

To get the Mk3 working again, you need to insert a good OS disc.
The OS disc needs to be burnt in Mode 2.
As Mode 2 has less error correction, you must burn the disc at the slowest speed possible.

I had the same problem with my Mk3, where it stopped during a software load. No more IBus communicaiton, no more red LED flashing. I managed to eject the bad OS CD, then switched the power off, switched on again (reset) and inserted a known good OS CD. My Mk3 then was able to read the new CD, and load the new SW, and start up.

Because the Mk3 stops and has no more IBus communication, the rest of the car cannot talk to the Mk3, so the car thinks no nav is fitted.

Try restoring your Mk3 this way.

Regards, Jochen

These files are standard CD image files. If you do not understand them please find a friend who does - they are simple to burn on to a CD

Note for a Mk3 Nav you MUST make sure the CD image is MODE2/FORM1

If you don't understand that, ask a computer friend
