Can you do something with an mk1 external gps receiver?
When i replaced my mk1 to mk4, the external gpsreceiver whas not needed anymore

Thanks for your replies, it helps.....

Yeah, I've been thinking about that idea aswell, b'cos I changed over on my 328i to a MK3 about three years ago, so I've got one spare aswell.
And also, the Trimble unit 'simply' decodes the GPS signals to serial data to the motherboard, almost like a RS232 protocol with handshake (4 lines), and obviously two power lines to supply the unit.
So in theory it could be possible, but........ more experimenting after this may be a bit to much for me at the moment!

For now I took the Trimble unit from my 328i's MK3 and tried it in the MK4 and than the MK4 is off intensive care and is working, so it really is only the Trimble unit that is broken. Also I don't meassure the 5 volt on the SMB connector to supply the GPS antenna on the wrong unit.

PS; My wife is getting tired of my car-hobby now she is driving with no working GPS onboard, you know, I mean, like if you need one all the time!!

Hi john, i can see that you are quit an expert, but what you are doing with your navs is russian to me LOL

Tru about the full use off the navigation, but i like the nice 3d view with the speedcam on it!!!
