Lost GPS satellite signal on Mk4 DVD

Hi,

Driving along today and all of a sudden lost GPS satellite signal. No dots showing in little icon map of world. Removed SatNav fuses for hour or so to reset but still no signal.

Looking in diagnostics menu no satellites being received and status "Searching for satellites".

What other things can I try?

Where is the GPS antenna located on E39 5 Series saloon?

Any help much appreciated. Lost without my SatNav - literally!!!

GPS antenna is on rear parcel tray, LH side, halfway between side of car and the centre-mount stop light.

Make sure you have nothing metallic on the parcel tray covering the antenna.

The fault 'searching for satellites' means that the GPS antenna cable is still connected, and it is detecting an antenna at the end of the cable, so you won't have a cable fault (unless you have a squashed cable, but unlikely)

You will have either a faulty antenna or a faulty GPS receiver module inside the nav unit.

The quickest, easiest test is to unplug the nav unit, and fit to another car with known, good antenna. Then you will know for sure which part is faulty.

Hope it is the antenna, that is the cheapest to replace.

Funny that i had the same problem last week and it sorted itself out on sunday, but now it just dont seem that accurate....

Hopefully someone can help us both out here...
