E38 dash display language

Hi guys,

Today i received the resler ibus device, ive tested it with navcoder and it works great!
The only problem is, that the nl language is fine on the navmenu and spoken language, but when i select this language, the dash-display stays German!
When i select english, the dash is english, when i select another, like spanish the dashlanguage is spanish, but when i select dutch, the dashlanguage is german!

Is there any solution for the dashboard to program and displaying in dutch? I know its possible because a few friends of mine bought there cars with dutch dashlanguage!

My car is an e38 (728i)

Im also interested in everything what can be manipulated thru the ibus, is there a faq somewhere or a tutorial with the possible codes?

Thnx in advance

Regards

Joël

The nav system has 7 full language sets built in:
DE, GB, US, ES, IT, FR, NL
...plus Russian RU (voice only)

The nav system OS sets the language on the nav, and tells the car what language to use.

The Instrument Cluster and the Light Control Module both send text messages to the Check Control Display

The nav system tells the car what language to use, but for the check control messages the actual langauge text is stored in ROM in the LKM and the IKE.

BMW stored only 6 x languages in these ROMs: DE, GB, US, ES, IT, FR.

If you select a language in NavCoder that is not supported by the ROM, then it will revert to either the first language (as shown in the nav system) or default German.

ie: If you want NL for nav, and GB for the check control, set the nav system languages up as GB, NL, xx (xx = anything). When you select NL for nav, the Check Control will be displayed in GB

Likewise, if you want NL nav and DE for check control, select DE, NL, xx

Cheers, Jochen

Almost everything can be changed on the ibus, the problem is learning the command sysntax for the ibus messages

ie: you can send an ibus command to turn lights on, lock/unlock, change radio settings etc. These are straight forward and with some trial and error you can learn them

But other stuff - change GM coding, change LKM coding - is also possible but very dangerous if you don't know what the coding means (and I don't!)

If you want to learnmore first
a) Google and read
b) connect your ibus interface and experiment with WinBus (google for WinBus)

Thnx Jochen,

I tried to set primary language in us? and secondary Dutch, everything worked, but the dash language stays in German when i select dutch in the navmenu!

Seems a bit to difficult for me to code the rom, but gonna study arround the internet!

Maybe i can read some strings from my friends e38 (he's got a dutch display) and then write mine over, but probably risky!

To bad there is no easy to use program like yours to code these roms (damn)!

Anyway thnx for the explaining and keep up the good work Jochen, you did a splendid job with Navcoder!

Regards

Joël

Your friend is lucky - his car supports more languages than yours. It is probably a newer car.

Don't play with ROMs and EEPROMs if you don't know how!
