POI Maker - what I've been doing this weekend
And the existing tools out there don't make complete files - the URL file doesn't have all the info. It doesn't store city name, street name, etc. Time to make my own tool I thought. Well, 2 days work, and here's what I have: An Excel spreadsheet, where you enter in the Lat/Long (in decimal degrees), Country, City, Village, Street, House number, Phone number, etc etc - any or all details as you wish. Then click a button - and the IDX and URL files are made for you. You can even designate the file names (0001.IDX) and the directories they should be written to, and the pair of files (IDX and URL) will be created in that directory. Perfect if you have the map CD stored on your hard drive and want to add the info to the directory directly. Simple. no messing about with POI_Converter or ASC files of Asc2idxurl command line programs. Just one spreadsheet, all by itself. Totally independent, not reliant on any other software. Now I'd like some testers to help me test it throroughly. Specifically, I need people in the Northern hemisphere, who want to store locations close to Greenwich - and people near the equator - so I can test the extremes of Lat and Long and makes sure all calculations are correct. Get back to me by PM...See ya! |
