Nav upgrade From Mk3 to Mk4 (Questions on SW upgrade)

Finally upgraded my the MK3 nav on the 2002 M5 to MK4. The settings show up as 4-1/12. I checked around, i guess thats the oldest version of SW/update for the MK4.

Need help on a few things:

1. I want 2 features, the british voice and the perspective view so which version should i use.

2. If i could i would like to get rid of the Accept screen and have a logo. Will the version for the above features let me do that ?

3. I am running the Navteq 2007 CD disc 6 for my area. The unit came without DVD. Does that make a diffrence if i want perspective view ?

1. The voice you want (British) and perspective view are somewhat independent. Update system with the V27 CD or newer to gain perspective. To get the voice files, you will either have to mod the disk to load the files, or use NavCoder to recode the computer to select the right voices during the OS update. (Search this forum for more detail on how to do both solutions.)

2. You can get rid of the Accept screen by either doing an OS downgrade/upgrade, or by using NavCoder. Yes, the V27 or newer will give you the boot logo.

3. Everything will work fine with a CD instead of a DVD. You will gain better road data and better PoI database with the DVD.

I downloaded v29.1 and used ISOUltra to change the file names from us to gb, then used image burn to burn the files at x1 speed and updated the Nav. It worked like a charm.

British voice is kick ass and so is the perspective view.

Now if i could only find out how i can put a custom picture or a M5 logo as the startup screen.
1. Can i use IsoUltra to add or change the startup imagefile ?
2. What resolution would i need for a good image ?
3. Assuming i make the change using ISOUltra and add a custom image, will my Nav update again if i burn a new cd (cuz technically, it will still think it is v29)

Yes & No...

Use IsoUltra to open the image
File, Open "v29.mds or v29.iso"
Navigate to "V-2/RR/0101/BMWC01S/app_sw" in the now open image.
Drag and drop the navboot out of the image onto desktop (or sub-dir)
Open navtweak (download from here if you don't have it ) http://rapidshare.com/files/8925524/navtweak.zip.html
File, Open "navboot"
Select the 2nd tab (images)

For splash seletct rombitmaps #14 and right click replace, (with your chioce)

Then save the navboot (keep a copy of the original safe).

Then drag and drop into the open UltraIso session (back where you found it, "V-2/RR/0101/BMWC01S/app_sw").

Save the UltraIso image as v29.iso, then burn a cd ad 1x speed.

Thats it.

Any image will do, as long as its the same size (W+H), a resize may be needed.

You are right, might have been an idea to do the mods first, however, burn a v28 disc and downgrade your nav computer then upgrade with the modded image. (I have never done this, so other may be in a better position to advise).

Quick question here about error rates on the CD burn. IF you guys validate your CD after copying, what error rates do you get? What error rates are 'acceptable' (will give successful upgrade)?

It doesn't seem to matter what CD manufacturer I use or what CD burner (tried 2) or what source for the V27, V28 or v29.1 software, I cannot get better than an image showing 3 sectors in error with each of those sectors having 3 errors.
Imgburn validation log tells me that there is probably a difference in the validation because the source file is wrong and Imgburn has 'corrected' those errors in its copy.
Did anyone manage to burn a CD with 0 validation errors?? I could try the upgrade with one of the CDs I have but if it goes wrong I cannot get back to a previous version, since I can never burn a 100% error-free disk, so my nav would be totally ****** unless/until I went to the $dealer!

Yup sure does..i will give it a try. Maybe i can also talk to KrisL since his hacked version is 29.11 and updates on top of the 29.1 so maybe i can rename my new modded one, to trick the system as well.

I use ImgBurn and always verify my burns. I get error free burns most frequently, although I also get some errors from time to time. I use CD-RW and whenever I get errors I rewrite over the same disk until I get an error free report. I’ve got a MkIV, I understand Mk-IIIs do not read CD-RWs. I never use a CD if it is not error free.
V29.1 burned with 0 errors directly.
