Newbie Nav help

Hey all,
New to the forum and have had trouble pulling myself away from it. I appreciate all the great info! I just bought a 2006 4.4, CPO, with the Mk4 Nav. My apologies in advance for what most likely is a rediculously simple and obvious question, but I've noticed on a few posts the option of setting the nav display into a perspective, 3D mode. I have yet to figure out how to do that. Apparently a particular sorfware version is required, of which I have no idea how to determine my current version, much less any idea on how to update it. My nav DVD is North America, 2006.2. Any information on the steps I need to take to make this happen would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the forum.

First thing you need to do is work out what version of firmware you have.

Do you know if the system firmware has been updated at any time.

To find out:
Go to the main menu. From there, click on the "SET" or "SETTINGS" selection.
The type of your nav computer and OS will appear on the upper right corner of the screen.

The first digit tells you which version of the nav computer you have, and the last two digits tell you the OS version.

If the first digit is a "4," you have a MK4 computer. If you have a MK4, then the newest OS version is 4-1/91.

If you have 4-1/70 or higher then you can have 3D perspectibe mode, to enable this, Perspective mode needs to be enabled in 2 places,

1: In the arrow map pointing menu and
2: The hidden setup menu.

Go to the menu screen select set (or settings) and hold menu button for 10 seconds, when the hidden menu appears scroll down untill the perspective mode option is selectable.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. My version is 4-1/70. When I get a chance I'll try out your suggestion. Any advantage of updating to 4-1/91??? If so, would my local BMW dealer be the best bet? Thanks again for the quick response.

I can't help you with the advantage disadvantage aspect of updating to 4-1/91. But as i mentioned if you use the search feature you will find tons of information that will provide the info you need. http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...rsion+4-1%2F91. For example using just "OS 4-1/91" in the search window i was able to find the link above in less than 5 seconds. Doing this will provide you with "detailed" discussions. Yes your dealer can update the OS free of charge provided #1 they Know about it #2 They have the latest update OS on hand. But don't let them try to charge you for it. Get it done in conjunction with some other service.
