Completed Navigation Retrofit!

Hi All!

Just wanted to go on record as another X5 member who completed the Navigation Retrofit!

I must say that this was a very draining project! After completing it you will have an intimate knowledge of your X5! It didn't cost the earth as I got some good bargains on EBay, but it was VERY time consuming and at times very stressful!

One interesting thing is that my DVD drive and Monitor came out of a car (2006 4.8is) with TV, Phone, DSP and TV Tuner. I didn't install any of those options at all but when the system started up for the first time they were selectable. After a while they were ghosted and then they disappeared altogether! I guess the system is able to sense what components to look for - or my monitor is 'coded' for those units.

I also have the TCU out of the 4.8is (combination assist/bluetooth) and will tackle that as my next project! Hopefully no recode will be required!

I would like to thank this forum and in particular NAZ HARTLEY, another Australian member who has completed the retrofit who gave me great advice and encouragement.

Hopefully once I tackle the phone I can move on to DSP!

Regards,

Luke Jenner

Good on you Luke!

Now that you have nav you will start to notice how lacking the Australian Navigation Disc is.... so you may be tempted to add more data... like I was

And the good news is you can! PM or email me and i'll show you how

Jochen

I am just about to commence this retrofit. I have an 04 built 3.0D with 16:9 with TV module as installed from new. I have so far collected the Mk4 Nav computer, mounting chassis, GPS antenna and will soon have the V12 CD. Apparently all Oz X5 are already prewired for Nav and all I have to now do is buy a $55 loom part to add to the existing loom from BMW spares and I should be set?

I am also awaiting the Resler USB interface so that I can do some programming.

I hope to start it next week and if I am lucky I will have it all working and will have saved a packet, certainly cheaper than the $3500 BMW quoted!

Australian X5s are NOT pre-wired for NAV if they do not have the monitor in the dash. However, since you have the monitor (without NAV) it is likely that your car IS prewired.

Good luck with the install!

Ok, I have all the bits now and so will start the fit soon, need to read a few of the various retrofit guides. I picked up the mini loom, bracket & antenna & extension from Alto BMW today.

Hopefully it goes in ez!
