newbie here, tried search, but didnt get much info

I am getting ready to bid on an MK4 on ebay.
I currently have MK3 widescreen. Dont know which version of Nav s/w it is running.

1)i just wanted to confirm that the following sequence of steps is correct to upgrade from MK3 to MK4:
-Disconnect the battery of the car
-pull out the old MK3, put the new MK4 in. one red and one blue clip on the
back.
-reconnect the battery.
-turned the car ignition to position 1.
-put the V29 update software DVD in
-about five monutes later the s/w install will be done
-eject the V29 update disk
-turned the ignition off
-put the Maps DVD in.
-turned the ignition on. And it should just work.

2)I read somewhere that the MK3 should be powered off in the correct manner so as to not leave it in a bad state (for resale)? How do I do that?
Do i just turn off car, wait until the noise from the nav computer ceases and then pull out the MK3? or is there something more to this?

3)I dont need to bring the MK3 up to a certain s/w version to be able to upgrade to MK4 right?

4) How can I tell which version of s/w my current MK3 is running?

Thanks in advance...
KG

I tried to do a search, but couldn't find it, hence the post....

1. you only need to update mk4 SW if you want. To upgrade, just unplug Mk3, plug in Mk4.

2. to =unplug mk3, wait until light on mk3 goes out. then unplug.

3. No. SW in mk3 has nothing to do with mk4.

4. view sw version in 'Settings' - top right corner
