Navegation Problem - Need Help

Hello.

I have a BMW 318i, automatic, with a Siemens CD GPS reader on the back (Part N: 84 11 1 470 181) and a screen on the front.

The system is complete and works great. BUT… it came with a CD 5 (Ohio Valley) and it doesn’t cover where I live. I have a 1999.1 CD version that works. I bought a 2007.2 Version and it doesn’t work.

As I turn the system on, a BMW (plain white letters) shows up and when I put the 1999.1 version CD it reads and boots fine (even though I can’t see the map) I am in St. Louis, Missouri.

Before I bought the CD, I called Navtech and asked if the 2007.2 version would work on my system. They said Yes!

After I bought the 2007.2 version I called Navtech and asked them what I need to do to have the system fixed. They told me I needed to go to BMW dealer and have the system firmware upgraded. So I went there… they had never seem my system before and had NO CLUE! They told me to call Navtech so they would have the CD to upgrade my system.. They don’t!!

They keep pushing to each other and no one seems to care.

So I ask for your help.

I have some pictures of the system that I am going to try to post.

Here is what I need:

A 1999.1 Version of Map 3 (Map that Covers Missouri)

Or a Firmware upgrade so I can read the new 2007.2 CD.

Thank you so much.

First off, welcome to the forum.

This looks like the kit you have installed,

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...18&hg=65&fg=95

This was an "add on" non standard BMW option (supplied and fitted by the dealer, but not made by them), the disc that came with it states "Accessory navigation system" where as the new (2007-2) is for the "on-board navigation system", this is where the problem is I think.

You need to go back to the dealer and say; "I have an 318i E36, the Sat Nav in my car is a bmw supplied and fitted accessory navigation system NOT the onboard Sat Nav system, can you please supply me with the correct "accessory map disc" for my seimons Sat Nav drive (Part #: 84 11 1 470 181 or 84 11 1 470 121).

They (BMW) should be able to get hold of one for you.

As for a firmware update...not sure if its possible on that unit?

HTH
