splash screen not showing with door open

hi everyone. 1st post here. i know you guys are masters of the bmw nav system!, so i hope you can help me.

i have a late 2002 530i sport 'champagne' edition. it has the mkIV nav system and version 30 software- 4/1-91. all upto date.

my question is that ive read lot of people say that the splash screen logo shows when they open the drivers door. well, mine doesn't!
the screen seems to try to do something but it remains blank
(a slightly different shade of grey but still blank).
it only shows the logo when i turn the key and then it sometimes just goes straight to the menu without showing the logo at all. it all seems very random and i cant work out when the splash screen is supposed to show.
i have perosnalised the logo but it was doing this before that aswell, so i dont think its anything to do with that.

anyone have this problem? or know how to fix it?
appreciate your time.

Cheers.

Splash screen shows on a cold-boot only. A cold boot occurs after a nav has completely shut down, which occurs 60s after the last door has been closed and the car locked.
If the nav has not completely shut down, then it starts in warm-start mode, and no splash screen is displayed.

Try it as follows: open boot, observe red light on nav. Close eveyrthing else and lock the car with the boot lid open. start a stop watch when you lock the car. Observe how the red 'activity' LED goes off after 60s. The nav has now totally shut down.

Now unlock the car, and open the drivers door. Do not yet put the key in the ignition. Observe how the splashscreen appears until you turn the key on. Splashscreen indicates cold boot mode.

hi KiwiJochen, thanks for the reply but it doesn't work.
as i said the system seems to try to do something when the door is opened but no logo comes up, just a different shade of 'blank'.
i have observed the LED activity light and it does go off after 60secs as you said.
your right about the 'cold start' though- the logo shows when i turn the key after allowing the nav to shut down completely. otherwise if i turn the key too early it will go straight to the menu.
i have posted on another forum and there a few guys having this same problem with it not showing when door is opened, i wonder what it can be?

Cheers

You are probably not waiting long enough.

Try again: a complete car shutdown with everything closed. Wait >60s. Or, wait >15min for the aux power to shutdown as well (orange light on transmission goes off)
Then, unlock the car wuith key or remote. Wait approx 15 to 30s to allow nav to boot to the point where it can display the splash screen.
You should see the splash screen

Maybe they changed the software interaction with the car for some models...??
There will be nothing you can do about it. So you need to accept it as it is.

hi kiwi, i dont think its how long i wait because even if i leave it overnight and then try in the morning it doesn't work.
it just seems a bit strange. some other members on BMWland forum have reported the same experience whereas for others it works as you say! same model and year of cars......hmm

Galaxy - my late 2003 X5 (upgraded from MKIII to MKIV) does exactly the same, splash screen appearance seems to be random.
