Map DVD Problem
This is my first post so be gentle I've been lurking for a while and have found this forum a source of great wisdom...hope someone can help me with a little problem. I bought a 2007.1 Europe Professional DVD from ebay - it was cheap and is obviously a copy but I can't get it to work with my MK.IV system. I've upgraded the firmware to V.30 and that works fine with the CD based map that came with the car...but no joy with the new DVD - The system can read the disc and reports that it is invalid. The directory structure on the disc is: Root has cdrom.toc, files.cfg and INFO_MAP.TXT There are 5 subdirectories: config (3.05KB), db (3.77GB), dbal (1.90MB), telemat (10.5MB) and tpd (267MB) Needless to say I've tried contacting the ebay seller but he's a total waste of space...so I thought it was time to consult the experts ...any pointers gratefully received.Steve Last edited by Griff; 11-25-2007 at 04:52 PM. |

You have bought the wrong DVD, you need the High one, not Professional.

Professional is for the Can-bus based vehicles such as the newer 5 and 7 series. The High is for i-bus vehicles, such as the E53 X5 and the E83 X3

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum,
I understand your confussion mate. Some of the problems come from BMW themselves, they say that the widescreen and 4:3 monitor system are "Professional", so it’s a reasonable assumption that you need the PRO disc, however, in this case the "Professional" means 16:9 or 4:3 colour monitor with dual tuner, as apposed to the 2" orange display (bussines). What Nav Map disc you need depends on your car, your cars age and your Nav computer type. So, if you have a e46, e39 or an early x5 then you have an I-BUS system and need the HIGH map disc, most of the newer cars use the MOST bus system for the Navigation system and for this you need the Professional Map disc. This link give a better explanation about the I-BUS Navigation systems http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...ystem-faq.html HTH

Thanks for that - you're right, it is confusing and the page you referred me to doesn't mention how to determine what is a professional system. To be honest, I've got a 2003 Z4 but I didn't like to mention that on an X5 forum...but I guess we're part of the same familiy It does seem like I need the 'High' disc - glad to say the one I got from ebay didn't cost much so no great loss. Thanks for the help, Steve |
