Question IMMOBILISER/RADIO CODES

HI GUYS,HAS ANY ONE CAME ACROSS THE PROBLEM OF THE CAR 1999 M5 ASKING FOR A CODE (WHICH I DON'T HAVE) TO ENABLE THE CAR TO START. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME AFTER DOING A VIRGIN NAV TV FIT(components from an 04 x5)TO VEHICLE, BUT THE BATTERY WENT DEAD.WAS RUNNING FINE UP TO THEN,BUT NOW ASKING FOR CODE.JOCHEN IN NEW ZEALAND HAS BEEN A GREAT HELP, BUT HE ON VACCATION AT PRESENT.I'VE TRIED THE EMERGENCY 10MIN COUNT DOWN SYSTEM BUT THE TIMER DOES NOT START COUNTING,STAYING AT 9MINS 59 SECS,THEN REVERTING TO THE MAIN DISPLAY. LOCAL BMW AGENTS CAN'T HELP AS THEY ARE SAYING THAT THE CODE NEEDED COULD BE FOR EITHER E39 OR X5, AND THAT IMMOBILISER CONTROL UNITS ARE IN CONFLICT. CAN ANYONE HELP AS CAR IS DEAD AT THE MOMENT AS BLOCKING DRIVEWAY!!! JUST AS A FOOTNOTE I'M NOT A CAR THIEF,AND CAN PROVE OWNERSHIP IF REQUIRED,BEFORE POSTING THIS TREAD. GETTING DESPERATE NOW
COLIN

Temporarily reconnedt your MID to your car. Then the countdown will work. You need to get your car coded for nav so that the OBC coundown will work properly in the future. Here is someone who just had the identical problem in an E38.

Immobilisers were not touched and cannot be in conflict.

As the previous post said, reconnect your MID, then your countdown will start. Of course, charge your battery first!

After the car is re-activated, drive to BMW and get them to do the Navigation Retrofit Coding. This tells the instrument cluster that the nav is fitted (instead of a MID), and the car will then correctly communicated with the nav. Then everything will work fine.

You're welcome.

On another note, consider using lower case when you write your messages (capitalize first letters of sentences, etc.). All capital letters is the Internet equivalent of YELLING. You will probably get more responses that way.
