mk4 sat nav help

I have a BMW mini and have swapped the mk3 cd unit for the mk4 dvd unit. My old system was SW3-1/50 and the new one is SW4-1/40. What differences am I meant to expect? This is the first time I've used a sat nav (except for the short time I used the mk3) and I was told that the dvd version would be much better but I cant see any difference if I'm honest. In what way is it better? Is SW4-1/40 the latest dvd? Any help/advise would be great.

Version 4-1/40 is very old. Update to version 4-1/91 following this link, and you will see many differences.

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...ystem-faq.html

Here are some of the major differneces between the MIII and MKIV you will see in the MINI.
  • Uses a DVD-based map disk for an entire continent
  • The map scrolls underneath the car position icon (i.e. the position icon always stays centered on the screen)
  • Very fast—no speed perception issues at all
  • Graphic improvements over the MKIIII: roads are better with more colors, effective resolution is higher, all destination and Point of Interest Icons are better, etc.
  • Easier to read screen colors with better contrast
  • 3-D Perspective view is available
  • More routing options
  • Much improved Point of Interest database that integrates with telephone/Bluetooth for direct dialing
  • Able to store three language choices instead of only two choices as in the previous versions
  • “Accept” screen automatically goes away after 8 seconds when coded in US mode (Accept screen can be disabled when coded in ECE mode)
