New X5 owner, need a hand with Navigation

Hello all,

Merry Christmas to all of you. I just bought a 2004 X5 4.4i with navigation. I was looking at some youtube video's from bimmernav.com. During one of the videos he presses the talk button on the steering wheel, and then asks it to "save location". He then adds the location to his system. He also has it pull up gas stations, resturants etc. etc. Mine will only do that manually. When hit the talk button, all I get is Phone options. Am I doing something wrong, or is it my version of Nav, and it doesn't come with that option. (I have to wait until Feb to get BT when my current phone contract is up)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

JB

The only way this would work is if you have either Bluetooth phone prep with SES (Voice Recognition) active, or you have the discreet SES module. Otherwise, as you've found, pressing the 'talking man' button just brings up the tel dialling options. You do have to press and HOLD the button though, and wait for the beep. No beep, no SES!

Do you have Assist (to get the phone options) or do you actually have Bluetooth Phone Prep? If the latter, then it's very easy to code for Voice Recognition with NavCoder and a suitable i-bus interface.

Trapdoor,

Thanks for responding. Ok now being a new X5 owner, I need to know where I can find that info. I press the talk man button, and hear a beep, I then can say Nav Help and it gives me a list of phone options. I say "save loction" and I get "sorry" response. So how do I go about setting it up to save locations and pulling up gas stations through my Talk Man.

Thanks again for you help! I already know more than I did!

Thanks
JB

Um, OK. Well, you DO have SES then.

What happens if you say "MAP" when you are say in the phone or radio screen? Do you get the Nav MAP screen up? Try that and report back as that will show whether it is communicating with the Nav system....

After you press the button and get the beep, just say help. The system will tell you what you have. It'll say something like ...help is available for navigation, phone....etc......................Phil

Mine (SES via BT module) will only give help on the phone commands but you can give Nav voice commands, so I don't think 'help' is all that helpful

Looking at my VR handbook, the following Nav commands can be given:

Map/Route Map
Scale ... 100 meters etc...
Petrol Station at current location/at destination
Hotels at current location/at destination
Car Parks at current location/at destination
Restaurants at current location/at destination
Destination guide/Destination Guidance
Save Position/Save Current Position
Instruction/Instruction off
New Route

Also:

Record/Record Note/Make a note
Read Note/Read Notepad
Delete Notepad/Clear Notepad
Volume Up/Volume Down

Re. Help, my book quite clearly states...'Reads out the Telephone Commands'

Hope the above helps.

Ok, so I get in hit the Talk button and say "help" It gives me add number, delete phone book, etc etc. When I say "map" it says sorry. So it's set up for phone that I am sure (I need to get a dang BT already!). So my question is, is it possible for me to have the computer on board set up to do things like "save location" "find nearest gas station" through the talk button. I'd love to get it working! Thanks to all of you for your help, I appreciate it!

Cool

You probably need an SES module:

It sounds like you only have bluetooth. Look for the module in the back...it's a silver box sitting above the nav drive....reference above for a photo...Phil

Thanks, will go check for that now. If I don't have one, do I need to go through a dealer to get one, or can I buy one elsewhere? Thanks in advance for your help!
