Unhappy Heelp - Why won't my DVD load ?

Sorry if this has been dealt with before but I'm new here. I've bought a DVD navi on e-bay but when I connect it to my E39 530d replacing my existing CD navi, the DVD powers up but doesn't take disks, they just won't load. Any help appreciated.

1. Does the map CD from your former nav drive work (the DVD based MkIV works with both CD's and DVD's)? If so then you may have a bad DVD disk

2. You may have the wrong DVD disk for your drive. There are two different versions. One is for the i-bus MkIV's such as you will find in the X5 and the other is a MOST-bus MkIV such as what you will find in the new style 5 and 7 series. They are not interchangable.

3. You may have gotten a MkIV for a MOST-bus vehicle, which won't work in an i-bus vehicle like the X5.

4. You may have gotten a defective MkIV

5. You may not have the connections made properly (unlikely, but possible)

If it won't take disks at all then it sounds like a bad MkIV to me.

Difference between i-bus and MOST-bus ?

Thank you very much for your advice. How can I tell the difference between an i-bus and a MOST-bus ? The Vehicle is from 01/2002 and the Mkiv is from 06-02 (6590-6920 182-01). I have a VIN number for it and it won't take disks at all but it does take power. Do I need a code to unlock it ? if so how do I load the code ? Is is possible an ant-theft lock has ben activated so that it doesn't take disks ?

There is no code for these units, no anti-theft, and they cannot be "locked". When you say you have the VIN for it, does that also mean that you know what it came out of? If so, let us know and we can tell you if it works for your vehicle or not.

The e46 is an i-bus vehicle, so that's not the issue. What kind of screen was in the e46? Was it a color LDC screen similar to what is in your 530d, or was is the small monochrome screen?

Yes, it makes a huge difference. If it was from an e46 with the small monochrome screen then it work work in your vehicle
