Hi Nick and welcome to the forums.

First thing you need to do is work out what type of sat nav stytem you have, CD or DVD, this will determine what map disc you need.

Do you know if the system firmware has been updated at any time.

To find out:

Go to the main menu. From there, click on the "SET" or "SETTINGS" selection.
The type of your nav computer and OS will appear on the upper right corner of the screen.

The first digit tells you which version of the nav computer you have, and the last two digits tell you the OS version.

If the first digit is a "3," you have a MKIII computer. If you have a MKIII, then the newest (and last) OS version is 3-1/63.

If the first digit is a "4," you have a MK4 computer. If you have a MK4, then the newest OS version is 4-1/00.

OR

Look at the nav computer (the drive that holds the map cd) if it has DVD written on the front, then its a DVD based system, if not then its a CD based system, a mk3 (probably).

If you have a mk4 then you need a 2008-1 high dvd, if a mk3 then a 2008-1 map CD disc.

If your OS is lower than the ones above the it's probably a good idea to upgrade the firmware as well, (not the mk3 as that would be up to date).

Hope this helps

ccfj1, cheers mate.
I think i have a mk3 as it does not say DVD on the black box in the boot just gps system.

Now i will check the actual screen later for the version, but if i have a MK3 and it needs updating where do i get this info??
Can i download it from somewhere or do i need to go buy a new cd??

Thanks

Check the SET menu (ccfj1 described this procedure above) and in the right-upper corner you'll see figures like this SW 3-1/63. If the last figure is 63 - means that you have the latest navi soft.... if it less - might be there is a sence to update....

If you'll decide to update take into the account that MK3 is VERY sensitive to the navi soft - read carefully this forum regarding specific details for the soft for MK3
