Question Upgraded Mk4 nav with v31 disc, showing v4-1/40...help

Hi all,

I have a question that may have a simple answer, or maybe not...

I bought a Mk4 DVD nav unit that was originally for a monochrome monitor. Having bought a resler iBus interface and used KiwiJochen's Navcoder, I've managed to change it to colour (this may have a bearing on the prob).
I have tried to upgrade it to v31 but when I check it in settings, it shows as SW4-1/40. I've tried to upgrade it again, but it tells me that it's already at version 10.00

Is there any way round this, as I want perspective mode but it's not giving me the option at all.

Thanks in advance.

Confirm boot mode using NavCoder.
What does the nav report?

Then do a downgrade to an old version like V21 or so, then upgrade again to V31

If boot mode is already set to BMWC01S, you won't need to change boot mode.

Hi Jochen,

I checked the boot mode and it is definitely set to BMWC01S. I was going to try downgrading but I wasn't sure whether it would work. I will give that a try tomorrow (too late now). Fingers crossed it works...

I couldn't find a copy of v21, so I used v24 to downgrade, then v31 to upgrade it. Took me all day but finally it accepted the disc. However, it is still showing as 4-1/40 even though the upgrade said it was now version 10.00.

So I'm back to square one.

I don't understand how it can say it's one version but then state an older version on the settings menu.

Any advise on what to do next?

Thanks

Show us a picture, I find it hard to believe what you say.

So take a pic and post it here so we can see.

Got the photos...

Here are the photos of what the system did at around 18.40 BST. They show the software version before the update and during and the result.

As you can see, I'm not kidding and it's doing my head in

I only want perspective mode. I used the update OS disc (v31) on a friend's DVD sat nav and theirs works perfectly, shows 4-1/00 and has perspective mode too. So I know it's not that.

I can only suggest you check your OS disc very carefully and make sure it shows version 10.00

Then try the following:

1. Downgrade to an earlier version <V21 and confirm that the version nummer changes. This will do a vull memory re-write

2. Upgrade to V31 using a known, good disc that you have checked for errors, and is clean and scratch free.

Thanks for the reply.

I know that the disc is okay, as it's been recently used to upgrade a friend's DVD drive. Theirs is fine. The disc is perfect - no scratches or anything.

Can I check the actual contents of the disc for what version it shows, any particular file?

Also, do you know of a good place to find a <v21 copy? I've looked at the links on the site, but the ones for OS updates I probably need no longer exist And google isn't much use either.

Sorry to be a pain...

But your laser is not the same as the friends laser. So maybe errors have more effect on your drive than on his. Copied discs are always worse than pressed discs.

Anyway, you can always consider buying a new BMW OS CD. Brand new price at BMW is around $20 USD

What's wrong with the links on X5 World's home page? They work.
