Help Please! Need a DVD Map Disc

Well, I just picked up my 2004 4.8is today only to find out when I get home that the DVD Disc for the Navi system is missing...called the dealer and he said that he didn't have it(used dealer)...Is there anyway to just burn the disc for the DVD unit so I don't have to buy one?

I've been reading through this particular forum for the last 2 hours and am completely lost with all this upgrade talk...does the firmware in the actual system need to be updated or is it just an updated disc?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks~

Ryan

PS...I am loving this truck! Just got the windows tinted and it looks absolutely beastly! Sweet

Sorry to hear about this. Personally I would pressure the seller to get you
one. If it has Navigation then it would only be fair for you to be able to use
the system he sold you.

Other than that the best resource is http://www.navteq.com/.
Maybe the used dealer will pay half.

NAVTEQ is the source for map discs. You can also purchase them from any BMW dealer, though they may not stock them. List price is $199 for the DVD map.

That is the actual map data. The "software update" we talk about here is the operating system for the navigation computer, which is loaded from CD once and then runs from the flash memory in the computer.

Map updates concern things like new roads, streets changing to one-way, etc. while the software updates add features like selecting destinations by zip code, adding a perspective view, etc.

You can generally update one without updating the other, though the only combination the manufacturer tests is latest map + latest software.
