MKIV GPS Nav Not Working

Hey all,

Short back story... bought my 2001 E39 with a dead nav computer, nav screen would only glow black so I swapped in the wife's E46 MKIV computer and voila, my head unit was working.

The only problem... GPS is off by at least 40 miles and travels in the wrong direction when moving. However, shows right outside my driveway if I use the wife's nav computer, so I think I can at least rule out any external hardware failures.

I accessed the hidden GPS menu and get the following:

I haven't tried resetting the battery or anything. Upon initial install I just plugged in the computer and since then it's been about 6 days so the waiting game is up.

Appreciate any feed back as I spent nearly 3 hours going through this page viewing various threads and figured this place would have the most resourceful folks.

SOLVED:

What I think happened... today we went to a state park that was up in the mountains, much higher elevation than the valley we live in. So after a week of not working, I get back in my car after our hike and notice that I have GPS in the top right map screen and in the settings i'm seeing anywhere from 6-8 satellites and almanac is at "yes".

Hope this helps anyone in the future having the same issue.

Bump, not solved. About a week after the GPS started working the GPS signal randomly disappeared and never came back.

Update again.. I know no one is contributing (lol) but incase anyone else is having the same problem... I swapped nav computers from my car and the wife's and was able to rule out that it was not a computer problem. I ended up tearing out the GPS antenna, re-connected it, and voila, everything is working perfectly. Super strong GPS signal whereas before there was nothing. I left the GPS antenna in plain sight on the rear parcel instead of under it, just incase I need easy access to it.
