mk3 not displaying street names after upgrade from v18 to 3/1-63

I'm new here and just saw your forum last night. Anyhow, I upgraded my nav os (mk3) from 18 to the 3-1/63 and noticed that I'm seeing route names instead of street names now. It's like the reverse of what I read in the FAQ:

Quote:
Benefits owners have seen from Version 23:
  • while V22 would show many streets with a route number (like SR581, A21,
M10, etc.), after V23 is loaded on a MKIV system the display shows the actual
"common" street names (like Bruce Downs Blvd, Fort Street, Southfield Road,
etc.). It has not been confirmed if this also works with the MkIII systems.
I did note that the above comment was for mk4 not mk3.

Any idea why this might have happened? Is there a fix? If it makes a difference, this happened to my car in San Jose, California. I noticed that what used to read Lawrence Expressway is now showing up as Route G2.

Try a newer map. street names can be map dependent.

And the FAQ was for the Mk4, which is not a Mk3, and therefore doesn't have the same OS software as a Mk3 - however the Mk4 can read the same map discs.

You loaded 3-1/63 which is good - it is the last and best OS version for the Mk3.

But anyway, first step is a new map disc.

Thanks! I've ordered one from the dealership; should arrive next week. I'll let you know if it changes things. I just think it's odd that the street was correct on v.18 before the upgrade and now it's showing the other.

I have a Mk4 in my X5 that was showing T20.10, just upgraded that one to 4-1/00. So far so good.

Throw the map disc in the Mk4 in the X5 and see how street names are displayed there :-)
