Sat Nav disc not recognised...but upgrade disc is.....?!
My Sat Nav (X5) has just started to say that there is no disc in the drive. I've bought a new disc in case it was damaged. Still the same message. However, if I put in a software upgrade disc (my old v27 disc), it loads up as normal. This would suggest the DVD unit is ok, but a bit confused as to why (now 3 different) Nav DVD's don't work. I stuck ! |

Is the DVD a copy, if so the MK IV is very fussy, try an original.
It's possible that the DVD laser has failed (or failing), there are different wavelength lasers for DVD and CD reading, try a map CD and see if that works. |

I was using a copy of 2006, so tried my 2005 disc and had the same. Also tried a friends.
I then bought a new 2008 disc to try and that's the same. Good point re CD v DVD though.....might explain why the CD is working to some extent. I did have problems some months ago with it not working and took the disc out and it was all steamed up! Was a cold-ish (UK) day. Possibly related....looks like a trip to the dealer. |

You can get a new laser drive unit from a place in Netherlands. Do a search here for the info. Has been discussed recently.
