My MK4 system won't read burned/copied disks.

I have tried more than 5 different burned/copied DVDs and none of them would read in my MK4, my system only reads OEM"real" dvds.

BTW: it's a 03 bmw m3,bought in Canada, is it Canada's only allowed to read OEM"real" ones? I know that a lot of others from US reads perfect with burned/copied DVDs.

Can someone please help me how to solve this.

Thanks

upup~~~

I have tried 2005 DVD and 2008 DVD and the latest 2009 DVD, none of them works, also I tried to create MDS/MDF file from my OEM 2001 DVD map and burned again with alcohol 120% and it still won't read. So I'm assuming my MK4 system only reads OEM"real" DVDs

Search the forum on DVD copies, and you will find many with difficulties. It is possible to get a burned copy to work, and some folks have no problems what so ever. However, it is also likely that copies will cause the MKIV to crash frequently. So, stick with original disks. They are faster and much more reliable in the MKIV computers.

I did that with my MK4 about one week ago. Costed me less than 10 Euro. I made a DIY with photos in a german BMW forum. I'll make a translation into English in the next days.

Ok cool man, please translate that into English and can you tell me where did you buy the laser from? And how is the result, did it improve? can it read burned/copied disks?

New lasers are stronger and create more reflected light from the disc.

Remember: burnt discs never reflect as much light as an original pressed disc, so you can easily have a situation where a weak laser reads the original disc OK, but cannot read a burnt disc.

Fit a stronger (new) laser and then you can read burnt discs as well.

Lasers and complete mechs are available at the navigatie-onderdelen shop in the Netherlands

Replacing a laser requires care and small tools.
Replaceing a complete mech is very simple.
