MK4 NAV Not accepting new disk

Hi, I just sold my MK4 nav on ebay and the person who bought it says he was able to remove the disc in the drive, but now it's not taking any new discs - has anyone ever experienced this? before I allow the refund I want to make sure that it's not an easy fix or procedure. Thoughts?

Did you power the mk4 down the right way??

Also it's not the best to ship a drive with a CD in it, but then again I have never had a problem with my MK4 like I have with MK3's.

Did you make the MK4 to ID it, he might be pull the blanket over your head??

Good point, the purchaser may be trying to scam you by returning a different broken MK4. Hopefully, you wrote down the serial number. I would not refund him until you get it back and verify.

hey guys.... actually, i think i'm the buyer that rastaFarai is talking about. I've been searching the web looking for a solution to the problem and found this forum and found this thread...

i just signed up here, but i've been a long time member over at bf.c and other forums, under the same username. not trying to rip off rastaFarai. I know, i know... doesn't lend much credibility if the one being accused of scamming says "not I".

anyway... just looking to see if I can get the MK4 rastaFarai sold me to work... basically, I plugged in the unit and it shows up on the screen, so i think the "computing" part of the unit works fine. I ejected the disc, put in another disc,... normally, you go half way in and the unit will grab the disc and self load it in... but in this case, it just won't. The self-loading mechanism seems to be dead.

I'd (and I guess rastaFarai) would appreciate it if anyone of you guys can suggest a way to fix this....

It will have suffered some mechanical shock during transit (some dumb postie dropped the box) and the DVD mechanism will have slipped a part out of alignment, or in worst case, broken a bit of plastic.

CD mechs should never be shipped with discs loaded, it makes them very vulnerable to damage

Take the top lid off, remove the drive and inspect very carefully for damage. Try gently loading a CD (with the power off) to see if the mechanical parts are moving properly.

If you are lucky, you can clip the guides back into place (I've had this twice).
If you are unlucky, you'll need to replace a broken plastic guide at the rear of the mech (I've had this once, tricky to replace)

If you have no experience inspecting and repairing CD mechs, take it to a shop that works on mechs!

Hmmm... unfortunately, the unit was shipped to me with the disc inside.

Ok, how do you take the top lid off? I don't see any screws that seem to be holding it on. Is it just friction fitted?

TIA...

It's just clipped on. Use a screwdriver, pry it up, and it comes off.

I hear that good deal!!!

I just lost one on ebay for $237

Just be careful when you take out the DVD drive to not break the teeth for the gear.

I had a repair and damaged it!!
