MKIV nav problems

Please help me Nav gurus!

I have an 03 BMW M3 with Nav problems. Searches all over the boards have left a few suggestions, but most arrows point here for the most information regarding bmw DVD Nav problems.

Last week it was -10 degrees here. When I went out to my car, I started it up and after clicking "accept" to the warning, I got an error:
"No DVD found, Please reinsert maps DVD" or something to that effect. Occassionally now it will say, "please wait".

Just like that...no warning signs of impending doom. Since then, the error stays. I have full function of my OBC, audio controls, settings, etc, just no maps/Nav!

I am running V27 and the 2006.1 maps, which I updated in 2006, and has been running flawlessly ever since until now.

I tried to do a hard reset by waiting until the light on the nav turned off, then disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, then reattaching. This did not work. I put in the original maps disc, yet this did not help either.

Am I out of luck here? Is there anything else I could try short of buying another DVD drive? I am still under CPO warranty, but apparently Nav is not covered for CPO.

Thanks in advance!!

Borrow another disc from someone you know or the dealer.
Try it out. Maybe it's the disc. At least you can narrow it down.

I will try to find one. I did try the original maps disc from 2002.1 that came with the car...it did not work either.

Hope it's something simple. Of course cleaning the lens
with a CD/DVD lens cleaner might help also. Cheap tricks
just might work.

Regards

Thanks again. I cleaned both discs with lens cleaner and a soft cloth prior to trying them today. The newer burned copy of 2006.1 maps did have some scratches on it, but they easily buffed out.

If you have the Nav errors I mentioned, try this!

Thanks for your help everyone! I received my replacement Nav DVD from grandata yesterday, and installed it today. It was 87 Euros shipped to my door. I opted to just go with a replacement drive rather than replacing the laser for the following reasons:
1) Nobody in Europe had the laser in stock online...or any other country that I could find
2) I am not all that well versed in soldering!

The whole install process was relatively easy to figure out with the guide linked above. I probably spent about 45 minutes on the project from removing the nav unit from the car, to disassembling it on my table, installing the new drive, then reinstalling the unit in the car. All works great!

The customer service that I received from Grandata was superb. I would highly recommend them.

Cheers and thanks again to all that helped me out!
