Will the system work without the Nav Comp?

(Posted this in the E53 general forum too, oops)

Hi all,

Please read the post before replying to its title LOL!

I'm in the process of buying-in all the parts I need to fit widescreen sat nav into my 2001 4.4 sport (that currently only has business radio and changer).

So far I have a wiring loom of a 2004 manufacture date (apparently. But has flat pins anyway) and a Dec 2005 BM54 radio. I'm looking to buy the screen next, at some point.

My question is: will the radio, cd changer and screen work "for now" without the nav drive unit installed, or will I have to wait until I have everything before I can install/make use of anything?

You will need either the nav drive or a video (TV) module in order to make the system operational. Both units have the "brains" to drive the system.

Ahhh, bummer.
Okie dokie, thanks Ucrew!
I may just wait until I've bought everything then, before I start the install.

Good luck with the retrofit, and take some before and after pics to share. If you haven't seen it yet, reference this article by Joe Puma for tips on how to do the retrofit - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...system-x5.html

I've read through Joe's how-to a couple of times now - definately seems very helpful!

(I don't think my laptop will be sat too far away from me when I'm doing it hehe!)

I just hope that when I come to doing it that I manage to get it all done in a weekend. I have a long drive to work during the week, would be terrible if i had no working radio one week lol!

When I'm done I'm then thinking of adding the tv tuner and the phone kit too at later dates.

Regarding the tv-tuner; with it being analogue will that mean when the digital switch-over finally occurs it will be useless?

Thanks again!
Dave

It will be useless for picking up analog TV signals, since they will no longer be broadcast. But you can use a digital converter box to get around that. The tv-tuner also allows you to use a DVD player and it has the interface for a backup camera. So it is not totally useless.
