Choosing the correct widescreen Bordmonitor

Hi again all,

This may well be a silly question, but I thought it best to ask rather than risk wasting money.

I'm currently buying-in all the kit I need to retrofit the sat nav system into a 2001 4.4 sport that's never had it, only has business radio (with tape) and 6-disc non-mp3 changer.

So far I've got myself a wiring loom from an X5 that had an '04 build date and a 'dec 05 (i forget the part number, but can soon get it - I'm not at home just now) BM54 radio unit (the model that supports ID3 tags).

Now, I'm definately going to opt for a MKIV dvd Nav comp - if it has older software then I'll update it myself (well, I'll try lol) later. But as for the screen .....are all the widescreen bordmonitors the same, can I just buy any one? In other words, does it matter what year or part number I get? Does it carry any software itself?

Thanks in advance guys.
Dave

I strongly recommend that you get one that came out of (or was intended for) an E53 X5. Units from an E38 or E39 (5 and 7 series) will fit, but the angle of the unit in the dash is more vertical so BMW has the LCD screen settings tuned for that position. Thus, if you do not use one from an E53 then the screen will not look as crisp and clear.

Do not use one from an E46 (3 series) as it will not fit properly.

Any screen from a 2001 through 2006 X5 is what you want to buy and install.

Cool, so as long as I get one that has an 'X5 part number' I shouldn't have a problem? And there were no revisions/improvements among later models?
