Nav Retrofit MPG Info
I am currently trying to attempt the X5 Nav Retrofit (including wiring harness) and am following the guide by JPuma. I am a bit confussed as to how the MPG info etc (which currently is displayed on my business radio) is sent to the 16:9 screen etc, is there a connector that I have missed or a method to sort this, or is this not possible Thanks for your help Jon Also if anyone can answer a previous post of mine it would be greatly appreciated as i am a struggling newbie with X5s, please see below link http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...ease-help.html |

The MID requests the data from the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster is the "master computer" and all trip computer data is calculated in the cluster Once the MID has the data, it is simply displayed. With navigation: Done exactly the same way, except it is the navigation computer that requests the data. NOTE: when changing from MID to nav, the car needs to be re-coded, so that the instrument cluster talks to the nav instead of the MID. |

Everything communicates over the car's I-Bus. You do not need to run any kind of direct connection to the instrument cluster to get OBC data.

All data to and from the rest of the vehicle goes over the ibus. On a retrofit, using a proper retrofit cable loom, the ibus is connected with the old radio connector from the old radio. If you are trying to fit a standard (non-retrofit) loom, then the ibus connection goes to the ibus joint-connector behind the glovebox. |
