2008 X5 Nav Questions

Okay, I'm new to this forum. I feel like I've got an easy question, but I've searched for hours and haven't been able to find the answer. Probably my incompetence.

My questions are;

I've got a 2008 X5 with a Nav system. What is it? a MK IV? Other?
What OS am I running?
Do I need to upgrade it?

The bottom line is that I'm having some issues with my nav system and I want to get the newest OS and Maps DVD. Many websites mention MK III or MK IV and I just don't know what I've got.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Other. the 2008 X5 is a n E70, the 2nd generation X5.

You do not have a MkIII or MkIV, you have the iDrive system - totally different.

Look in the service mode of the system, which can be accessed via the iDrive controller. Instructions and pictures of service mode are here: Screenshots of the hidden/secret menu [access to GPS speed too] - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

The only way to update the software is via the BMW dealer diagnostic system

Thanks, KiwiJochen! That explains a lot. I knew that we had iDrive, but I didn't realize that this was the same as the nav system. Thanks for the help!!

My wife just corrected me...we've got a 2007 (not a 2008). I'm guessing that the answer remains the same. Correct?
