Lost my Nav Voice - MK4 (Z4M) =(
Long time lurker here and have done a few software updates to my 06 Z4M which I've had from new, so many thanks for a great useful forum. I've recently lost the voice on my Nav, the volume of my stereo dips accordinly but the voice never cuts in. Even when I choose "Instruction" from the menus it doesn't speak to me. I recently used a dodgy spanish Map disk and for a while assumed this was the cause, but I've just this week done the POISon update, new splash screens, forced the voice update and burned an entirely different modded 09 disk that seems to work perfectly and the Voice hasn't reappeared. The cameras are now up there, but I don't know if the POISon worked because it's not talking to me anyway. Is there a specific connection to check on the back of the radio? I recently installed the Aux in, which was a 5min job and I didn't mess with anything else but I'm wondering if I've accidentally dislodged something. The car is under warranty but I've just had the OEM bluetooth installed by a local independant blokey so I don't want to go to the dealer just yet in case they moan about that. However, the voice *definitely* wasn't working before the bluetooth was installed. The only thing I can think of now is to burn an old 2007 map disk and try that, as it worked back then - in case there is something different about my 2009 disks. If someone knows how the voice is supposed to get to the radio, I'd be grateful for some assistance. Thanks! Andy |

With or without DSP?
Makes a difference... |

The nav audio comes into the radio module on the small white connector on pins 11 and 12 - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...formation.html
You may want to consider going back to a stock OS load to see if there may have been a problem with your custom OS. and :xoutpost:

No DSP..
My previous one was V29 and only had a different Splash Screen, is the voice on the OS, not the Map DVD? Obviously it's still not working on V32 with POISon so I'd ruled this out. |

If no DSP then the voice on a Z4 is cabled as follows:
With TV: From nav to TV tuner and then to the radio in the dash TV tuner is located in the boot, mounted to the panel behind the seats (ie: directly behind the nav) Without TV: From nav direct to radio in the dash In the radio, the audio is on pins 5 & 11 of X13649 Yellow/red is audio + (pin5) Yellow/brown is audio - (pin11) The wires are a twisted pair, easy to spot. X13649 is the outer-most small 12p connector under the main radio connector The wires will be easy to spot. |

So that's my best bet? Most likely to be a connection you think?
Will try and whip it out for a look in a bit. |

Thanks folks .. had a good root around behind the stereo and re-plugged a few things back in, and the Voice is back.
Don't live very close to a Speed Camera so will check my work on the POISon thingy tomoro. Chuffed! |
