Nav SW upgrade using a Mac
I have a 2005 X5 with v26 nav software that I wanted to update. Unfortunately, as a Mac user with no access to a Windows computer, I couldn't find much guidance after several hours of searching on this board for how to burn the current software version onto a CD using a Mac, that is, without buying a CD burning program such as Toast.
I checked into buying a CD from my local dealership and it seemed to complicated...had to be ordered so I would have to pay in person (no credit card purchases over the phone) and then make another trip to the dealership to pick it up - - too complicated for me. With some time on my hands today, I decided to download v32 and see what my 2007 iMac could do for me. Once downloaded I used Stuffit to unzip the file. An icon appeared on my desktop. I then used the Disk Utility application to burn iso file on my desktop a CD. The only setting I adjusted was the speed...changed to 8X, the slowest speed. Otherwise I just selected Burn. It took about 3 minutes to burn. I then followed the upload instructions and in about 2 minutes it was updated with V32. I then followed the directed to select perspective and I was good-to-go. Now I need to buy a new map DVD. My current version is from 2004 (don't recall the exact version). I assume the most recent version by Navteq would work (High Version 2009.1). Is that correct? I also assume ebay is the cheapest place to pick on up. Correct? Navteq advertises it for $200. Thanks, MUG3 |
