Language work around

Hi.

I have an navigation system that refuses to show any other language then deutsch. Mk3

I have recently installed v31, and have the newest software availeble to the mk3.

What i want to do, is replace the language in the deutsch folder to english using navtweak, in order to trick the navigation believing it is showing deutsch..

What i am not sure about, is how to edit the v31 i have, so that i can burn it in right format mode2/form1 and reinstall it..

I guess i will need to alter version number as well, in order for it to do a reinstall with same software version.?

I hope someone can give me some step by step info..

Thanks.

Let's try solving the original problem first:

What two languages are loaded on the nav?

Have you tried loading 2 x non-German languages to force the overwrite of the German language files? eg GB and FR

What does the rest of the car do when you change the language? ie: what languages display in the check control display?

You problem is strange, as the Mk3 sends the change language command to the instrument cluster, which then in turn sends the new language settings to the entire vehicle. So I struggle to understand where the problem might lie, unless someone deliberately loaded DE and DE onto the nav.

Hi Kiwi.

We have talked about this earlier.

The options in the Nav are GB or D. However, if i try to choose GB, it ignores my request, and keeps it at D.

The nav wasinstalled at a later time, and i only have low cluster..

Edit.

I do not know how to choose the languages to be loaded.

Low cluster is the problem. Your cluster does not respond to the change language command.

You can load new languages with NavCoder. However, it will not change your problem.

With a low cluster, the vehicle will always default to the default language (language 0, or German), because the cluster does not send any language commands.

If you do not wish to change the cluster, then your only solution is to change language 0 (German) to another by editing the text on the nav OS disc, and loading the customised OS.
Which is of course what you wish to do.

To edit the disc:

1. Use MagicISO and extract the Mk3's usw_load file
2. Use NavTweak, overwrite the German menu text with your desired language
3. Drag and drop usw_load back into MagicISO
4. Save the ISO image

You can change version number if you want (to higher than 3-1/63, eg 3-1/64), then the OS will load over the top of 3-1/63

Or: simply load an older OS version older than 3-1/63 (eg: 3-1/50), and then load the modified 3-1/63 on top of 3-1/50

Both methods will work
Version number is stored in sw_rel.tbl, edit with a hex editor.

Thanks Kiwi.

I want to try and "fool" the nav as first option..

When lnstalling a new software, it says no need for additional language, which is probably what you stating..

So ill use navtweak to edit the lang file.

But, how do i make it a mode2/form1 file.?

Easy.
Start with a Mode2/Form1 image, and always keep the image in the same mode.

MagiISO will keep the image in the same mode as long as you only use "Save" and not "Save as"

BTW. In the sw_rel.tbl file, the top line says 0630app_sw/ What do i need to put in here to make the nav use the update.?
