I searched the forum for quite some time and still could not find any clear step-by-step instruction on how to get the navigation and OS version for an E70 with June 2008 production date. The available instructions either applied to older versions (like displaying the version number in the corner of the screen) or just did not seem to be applicable to my system. During the last service visit I was promised that they will update all the software. I don't see any notes related to the Navi software on the copy of the work order. I just want to make sure that I'm on the latest s/w versions. If somebody come up with step-by-step instructions, we should add it as a sticky topic!

To view nav OS version in idrive cars:
To access service menu in i-drive cars: 1. From the main menu display, press the controller down for minimum 6 seconds. 2. Turn the controller 3 increments clockwise (to the right). 3. Turn the controller 3 increments counter-clockwise (to the left). 4. Turn controller 1 increment clockwise (right). 5. Turn controller 1 increment counter-clockwise (left). 6. Turn controller 1 increment clockwise (right). 7. Push down on the controller. 8. To exit the service mode, select the return arrow at the bottom on the left of the screen. To view OS version: In Service Mode, select the navigation system Scroll through the menus to view the SW version - it's down the bottom of the menus If you do not understand what you see, take photos and post them here.

Thanks again, KJ! I learned this sequence by heart while I was messing with the service menu
 This time I took pictures of all pages in the service menu and posted them here: Picasa Web Albums - evolvah - E70 Navi Serv... I will appreciate any hints about my OS and Navi S/W versions. Thanks!

Well the particular software versions of the various devices are plain to see
I don't know how to relate those versions to your CIP level though (CIP = Coding, Individualisation & Programming) On the Hidden SIDs screen you can see some file date and times, with 31 Jan 2008 being the newest time This implies that at least once after 31 January 2008, your car was updated. And the various software units report a manufacture date of July 2008 Anyway, it's rather irrelevant, because the only way to update the car is via the BMW dealer. And as your car is so new, it is still under warranty. So see the dealer! So to determine your current CIP level, visit the dealer :-)

I'd just like to revisit this topic for a moment. I've just got rid of my E53 X5 and got an E66 745Li. The nav software version is 8.4.4 so from looking at the info on here it looks like I have a NAVI102 system. I therefore have a couple of questions:
1) Would upgrading to a 103 be a straight swap and what were the major changes from 102? 2) Am I correct in thinking that my 102 would benefit from an update to V32? Last edited by Jaycee; 07-05-2011 at 02:52 PM.

You can update a NAVI03 to 09.08.02 with Ver. 32. I don't know what the changes are as I don't have an e65/66. You should search for the SIB for Ver. 32 which will list the update features. A friend updated his Dad's car to NAVI03 with ease.

Finally a reply, many thanks Roy.
When I updated the Mk III in my E53 to Mk IV I could code all the relevant changes with NavCoder, however I don't know if any coding is needed with the NAVI02 to NAVI03 upgrade and obviously I don't have any method of accessing the MOST system, any info from your friend?
