Red face Upgraded to MKIV problem

Hey guys just joined i own a 2002 330Ci Convertible and i have just upgraded the nav to the MKIV but im having problems with the unit reading the navigation disks, is there some way that i need to initialize the unit to the car? I have had some of the guys from work (BMW dealership) program it with no such success but none of them have ever done an upgrade much less changed one on an E46...i have forked out a fair price for this unit so i would really like it to work

any help would be greatly appreciated

Going from a Mk3 to a Mk4 is a simple plug-n-play swap. If all of the connections have been made properly then it's likely that you either have a bad Mk4 unit or the Mk4 you have is coded for mono-chrome. NavCoder can fix the latter issue. Have you tried swapping the unit into another vehicle with navigation to see if it works?

If the unit is basically working (showing menus etc) but simply struggles to read a map disc, then the laser is old / weak / tired / dead.

A replacement new laser - or a new DVD mechanism complete with laser - will make it better.

Replacement DVD-mechs are easy to find (google...) and even easier to replace with very few tools required.
