Roy: Your list begins with PN of 10th generation of BM54 (6 976 963/4) that as the first gen. of BM54 supports MP3 (with CD changer with MP3 support) and as You go down the list, the generation of BM54 radio decreases. So mine (6 922 510/1) is 3rd gen. [09/2002 to 12/2002] and e39-528touringīs (6 919 078/9) is 2nd [03/2002 to 09/2002].
m5james: I did it three times in total and with the last adapter I used subsequently several resistors in range 330-147k too and no AUX text on display at all. According Your last "google translate" link there should be AUX IN available for radios from EDIT: 09/2002, so my 3rd generation of the BM54 radio.

I thought that's what you meant. I'm still hoping that w/ some exposure, that someone will read this that is either capable of figuring it out, or has already done so. If it can be used to play a cd changer, I don't see why it can't be adapted to be used as an aux input.

Ummm... all you need to do is update the hardware and the firmware in the radio.

To so follow these instructions:

1. Get a newer model BM54 as a donor for parts.
2. Remove the main board, including the subboards with firmware on them, and swap from new radio to old radio
3. Reassemble and test

Tip: once you have the board out of the radio, take note that the only component left is the metal body frame, and then ask yourself: why bother?

:-)

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking me to do here, sorry If your suggesting that I need to get a new Business CD unit, wouldn't it just be easier to upgrade to a newer version that can also play MP3's...I just don't know when that starts either.

That's exactly my point.

Upgrade the radio module as a unit, that's the easiest way.

CD changer from 09/05 is MP3 capable
BM54 from 09/05 I think

Yeah, but at a $300 minimum, I may as well upgrade to an aftermarket that incorporates Bluetooth and tons of other features. Sadly, someone figured out there is a slight market for these used BMW decks, but are charging outrageous prices. Below are some aftermarket decks that would provide more features for less:

7" touch screen dvd player double din car radio stereo - eBay (item 270413142041 end time Jul-21-09 16:56:19 PDT) - Not that i'd get this because of the low resolution, but you get the idea.

Pioneer Premier FH-P800BT Double Din Bluetooth CD MP3 - eBay (item 120440495897 end time Jul-02-09 19:20:15 PDT) - friend has this deck, it's quite nice.

Remember, BMW is the epitome if not getting what you pay for.

ad CD changer w/MP3) The only PN I have is 65 12 9 131 852 from 2007

If your BM54 radio was manufactured the 27th week of 2002 (KW 27/02), then this would be July 2002... meaning you don't have a model year 2003 radio. No AUX input.
