My X3 retrofit worked 100% first time without the GT1 option coding (although I have since paid to have this done). I used a secondhand colour MkIV with v29 software which I think included a fix for the flip-up screen.- worked first time.
Recoding MkiV to colour should fix problem. You could also try resetting the region info for the CID radio to Europe.
