Mk4 Nav Problem

I have a mk4 nav that keeps reseting itself after around 13 seconds, I've searched the forum and cant find anyone else who has had the same problem, the light on the nav comes on, it spins the disc, the light flashes then stops spinning the disc then the light goes out, then the cycle starts over again.
I've tried to load various OS discs to no avail, I've tried the OS discs in a mk3 unit I have and they all work in it. I have Navcoder and the only communication from the Nav is between Nav and Rad and its every 13-14 seconds saying Nav ready after reset, it seems to be stuck in a loop of switching on then resetting, the laser has also been replaced with no effect, tried the usual battery disconnect also.
Any ideas? Was thinking of buying a new drive mechanism to see if this would help?

Does the nav have an OS loaded at the moment?
Ask it with NavCoder...

What is the boot up sequence like? Normal?
Log it with NavCoder...
Compare with Mk3

If it's reaching a certain point in the boot up sequence but no further, you may have corrupt flash memory.

I really have no idea how to work Navcoder although as far as I can see some information can be extracted from the mk3 but not the mk4, when I select code navigation I can read the mk3 but not the mk4.
Is there any way to repair a corrupt flash memory?

if the memory is corrupt then you have to send to vdo in wetzlar germany for repair

Try a search. I think I posted it either here in the nav forum or over in the nav forum at bimmerboard.com. I had made contact with them last winter. Maybe search for my posts about it. I will search my old email files also.

What happens when you don't have any disk in the drive - does the computer boot up and allow you to display the OBC? I had/have a weird problem (see recent thread), and before it solved itself (hopefully not just temporarily), the computer would spend many minutes with black screen and occasional flashing horizontal white lines, then would boot up to just past the accept screen, then would lose it and go back to the black with flashing. This occurred after I managed to get the nav disk out of the drive, as well as when the disk was still in the drive. It seems like the problem may be temperature related - problem went away yesterday after car had been in sun all day and trunk was very warm. If you haven't already, let your trunk warm up and see if there's any change in results.

In the past I occasionally (every 6 months) had a boot problem, which I attributed to a bad nav disk, but now I'm not sure that it really was the disk. Might have been the same problem as just recently, but in the past it may have cured itself by the time i removed the disk, so removing the disk didn't actually cure the problem or affect the problem. Good luck.

It does the exact same with no disc in as it does with a disc in, my screen reverts back to the standard blue with the black lettering when I have the Mk 4 plugged in. I've tried emailing VDO repairs, the first email address doesn't work and I've had no response from the second email address yet
