Nav works, OBC works, radio/cd DEAD - any ideas?

Both Nav and OBC show up on the screen.

Radio on/off button doesn't turn power on anymore.

I thought it might be a fuse, but it looks like nav/obc/radio all use same fuses.

Any other ideas what might have killed my radio.

[I didn't add/remove anything, just stopped working one morning. If I'd installed a DVD system, I could have used the title "video killed the radio car" - sorry, couldn't resist it ]

Sounds like the radio module is dead mate, have a look for water damage and the fuses

Aren't the fuses the same ones that the obc and nav run on?

Any ideas how to take the radio module out to look at it?
DIY possible or is some fancy dealer tool needed?

Unbolt the 1 x bolt that holds it in
Unplug the main connecter and the antenna
Remove from car.
Easy really....

PS: effort varies from vehicle type to vehicle type.

I'm guessing you have a blue 1998 E39 540i, which makes it very easy.

No I have a silver 2004 X5
I suppose that makes a difference

Isn't the radio module behind the nav screen? My guess is there is a way to remove it once it is in the 'eject cassette' position, but it isn't obvious

No, the radio module for the X5 is in the boot (trunk), in the spare wheel well, under a plastic cover.

The screen is a screen, keyboard, and tapedesk. Nothing else.
