Exclamation Mk4 NAV DEAD? - e46 M3 Conv - PLEASE HELP!

Hi everyone, hope you can help me on this one..

I've been looking through all the past posts and can't find anyone with exactly the same issue as me, although many are similar.

I have a mk4 sat-nav unit, with the 16*9 screen (CD player version). Pictures attached.

I tried updating my sat-nav unit 6 months ago to firmware v31, with success and managed to get the aspect view. However, my brother gave me a new disc, which had v32 firmware, which he had successfully installed on his e46 M3 convertible (same mk4 sat-nav unit and head unit)

While updating my sat-nav unit the ignition was switched before it had completed, and this is where my nightmare began. I now have a blue screen with all the options other than the sat-nav option. From what I have read this is the head unit taking over as a problem has been detected on the sat-nav unit in the boot/trunk.

I have tried disconnecting the battery, waiting for ten minutes and reconnecting and tried re-installing the v32 firmware, with no luck, still the same blue screen.

I have tried loading firmware versions, v27, v29 and the dreaded v32! grr.. Still no luck.

On the sat-nav unit I no longer have a power light, however I can see a light in the drive, and hear the disc spinning. I can also still eject the disc by pressing the eject button a number of times..

I took the car for a service at the BMW garage, where they told me that I needed to buy a new drive at a cost of £2000!... ouch…

Any assistance really would be appreciated as I need to sell the car due to a new family member, and babies in M3s just don’t make any sense… Getting an x5 (if I can resolve this issue)…

You have corrupted the rom in the mk4 by interrupting the OS upload, this is very bad.

The manky blue screen is the Tv module taking over as the nav unit can't be seen in the system.

Download a new version of v32 (from this site) and follow the burn procedure and then the upgrade procedure and you may get the mk4 back.

Other than that it's a new or 2nd hand one of ebay.

And if ccfj1's recommendation fails to kick it back to life, you can send it to Conti at Wetzlar Germany or to me in Australia for a reflash.

Hi guys, thanks for your suggestions.
I can't believe how easy it has been to destroy this unit!
Would either of you have, or be able to point me in the right direction for burning instructions on a Mac?

autotronic - how much does sending this sat-nav unit to you for a re-flash cost? Also, would it then be back to a factory firmware version, or are you able to install the latest version so i could again have the 3D viewing option?

Thanks again guys...

Well, on the whole they are normally very robust, you must have turned the power off at exactly the wrong moment, they are pretty bullet proof.

No not for the mac no, they don't lend themselves to this sort of thing, PM me your address and I'll bung one in the post mate.

Well, it's identical to your mobile phone or CD drive in your PC.

Disconnect power halfway through a reflash and you corrupt the flash memory.

Pretty much standard rules for every flashable device on this planet....

...and most flash devices that get corrupted are very difficult if not impossible to restore.
