Can i output the GPS map to another monitor?

Question - i have tv screens in the rear of the front headrests showing PS2 and TV module output. Can i also display the GPS map on those screens? I can get another input in to the tv, but is there anything i can tap into on the dvd drive, or the 16:9 dash monitor to give me a rgb signal i can use as a third input on my headrest monitors? Think it would be pretty cool if passengers could see the sat nav without leaning into the front.

I know the answer is probably no but worth a punt

There is info on the MkIV pinouts on a previous thread a few threads down.....

You should be able to tap the RGB signal off the MkIV but may need to decouple whatever you are connecting in case you pull the signal down and affect the bordmonitor output.

in english please lol. I think your saying if i take too much of the video signal out the bmw loom, the original nav screen wont work? So how do i 'decouple'?

And the pin outs below, any ideas which ones i can use for RGB signal?

Yes, generally you can't just 'tap' into things like Video without causing at best slight degradation and at worst a total loss of useable signal. However I don't know whether you will have any impact on the Bordmonitor by tapping off - it depends on the tolerances in the display. You may get away with it, you may loose 'brightness', you may introduce some 'interference'. Suggest you give it a try.

I'm surprised that you haven't twigged the RGB pins from the diagram ... they are listed as NAV Rot (Nav Red on pin 4 ), NAV grun (Nav Green on pin 8) and NAV blau (Nav Blue on pin 13) on the BLUE (X1313) connector. You will also need the Sync on pin 17, though your monitors may expect an in-signal sync which is usually on the Green line (SoG). If you do, that won't work and I expect your additional screens will roll/be unstable. Don't forget to tie the ground/screen onto pin 15

Let us know how you get on. Good luck

ok i may leave this - looks beyond me. I just wanted an easy thing, and looks like i would need to convert RGB into the format my tv would like (i.e one phoneo plug with two connectors). And you completely lost me with the sync business. I can understand what it's for but no idea how to incorporate it with a necvox screen.

Appreciate your help though, maybe it will all come to me in a dream but until then . . . .

Ah, OK. Your original post asked about getting an RGB signal for your monitors. You want a 'Composite Video' signal? You have a single (yellow) phono input for video? In that case you will need an RGB to Composite Video converter - Maplin may do one

Yeah sorry my bad - Assuming i get three wires (r, g and b) and connect them to 3 phono plugs, do they go to the centre pin? and what does the outer connector join too, all to earth?

How about you start your own thread, that is relevant to your problem, with a little more detail on the issues and the hardware.

This thread is my thread about an RGB/Composite output from a nav computer, nothing to do with naf broken dvd players.

thanks
