RDS- TMC Not doing anything

Can anyone help.

I have a mkiv BMW Navi system in my X5 which has a an 09 disc. The TMC is illuminated green and navigation works fine but TMC is not doing anything. No traffic updates or anything. I've ensured its turned on in the settings..

UK TMC is more trouble than it's worth.

Crash that happened 8 hours ago? Not on TMC becuase the Police want to keep the traffic on the motorway and out of the villiages.

Crash that was cleared yesterday? Stilll on the TMC.

Queue on the M25? Redirected onto the A406 which is stationary but there is no traffic data coverage and so it looks like an empty A road to the GPS.

You are better off with the local radio traffic reports.

In Germany/France, TMC works well. It's up to date, with detailed information such as "traffic contraflow, average speed 50MPH, roadwors for two weeks starting from xxx".

Try tuning your radio to Classic FM and leaving it there for a while to see if the TMC updates. The data rate is very slow.

I agree Bob, when it works it works well, but it's a bit hit and miss.

Also check the TMC information in the poi menu.

Remember though, you only get Traffic Advisories and icons on the map when you are in Route Guidance mode. Just in map view, you won't get any icons or 'black arrows' on the road.

To see if TMC is receiving data, you need to look at the 'traffic info' list which will be populated with the closest 'delay' first.
