UPDATE:

I decieded to take it apart myself and see what to find.. According to the mark on the side case.. This is where I suspect the damage to be! .. You can actually see the "trails" .. But is it cleanable? I am gonna buy some Isopropylalkohol 99 % tomorrow and clean.. could be FEKKIN´ awesome if I could get any results..

Its dim and not shiny.. dont know if it makes a bad contact ? Cleaning would help atall?
have a look :

BTW: What do I use to clean? A cloth? Toothbrush ?

I see signs of water staining. Hard to see because the photos are all out of focus.

Use the isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush
Scrub the affected area of the board gently to remove all contaminants
When doing so, hold the board up on an angle so the alcohol and contaminants flow off the board onto eg a towel.

Do both sides of the board

You may need multiple applications to make it clean

Let it dry throughly before reassembly and test

Note that any dull solder should be resoldered. As the board is all surface mount, the right soldering iron, skills and solder are required. Clean again after any resoldering

Good luck.

Ok, so im in the middle of the cleaning procedure! Have the solder iron ready.. BUT however it wont just dissappear with that alcohol - ill guess ill have to do it again and again and again and ..

Well i got my alcohol and toothbrush!

Here the solderings are very dull/dim? ... they properly need re-solder like Kiwijochen instructed me to..

This is very hard to clean? The traces wont just go away with toothbrush, but they will go away if I scratch with a hard object like a screwdriver.. BUT i wont mess around with that!!! That could potentioally ruin everything! Ill just need to keep cleaning!

PLEASE!: I am sorry for the out-of-focus pictures... but an iPhone just dont cut it with close ups ... I dident have another cam nearby.

Ill report back when more progress has been made..

I would hold off retouching any soldering until you know there is a fault. The water deposits can be mildy conductive, shorting pins together. You can clean them with PCB cleaner and a little patience.

Yes, clean and dry and test before soldering

A fiberglass PCB cleaning brush from your electronics parts store offers the best method to safely clear deposits and contaminants of the board. It is more abrasive than a toothbrush but not as destructive as a screwdriver :-)

Here's one:
Lenline Fiberglass Scratch Brush - CK3.CO.UK

If the nav doesn't work after re-assembly, use a multimeter to try and find any tracks that may have corroded through, then you know what to repair.
Use normal PCB repairing techniques for any corroded tracks.
Pray the corroded tracks are only on the surface layers, not on the intermediate layers of the multilayer board !!

So far, JACK! ...

The cleaning of case and pcb dident help .. It did power up right away, how ever the magic rotary bug is still there..

And I even aquired something ekstra.. now there are also some dim white lines? random on the screen.. the power lamp is lit red, its just fading very little on/off.. maybe thats related to the white lines..

Maybe there is some kind of internal error in the cpu? Although it seems like the "control unit" of the buttons that is malfunction.. If I only knew specific where it is on the board...

crap! knew I was gonna use hours and get nothing back... guess the next part is the soldering...

Be prepared to buy a replacement. This unit is starting to sound like it is toasted. First you need to finish the cleaning job thoroughly. Make sure you let it dry before powering up.

Well I am ..I just called Germany.... Ill send it down for repair. They accepted it and said: SHIP IT!

Although it was a BIT hard to understand the phone conversation.. I could hear them passing the phone on to like.. 3 people before one german could talk some rusty english hahaha!

I will ship it tomorrow, but before that ill attempt a final cleaning AND soldering! I have nothing to loose if im gonna ship it anyway.
