Mk4 Hardware differences?
But there are a hell of a lot of differring mk4 part numbers out there... Is there any real difference between them? (if I buy an early unit am I ok?) I understand I can recode if I get a monochrome display? (sorry if you see this question a lot, but I could not find the info using the search, maybe bad search terms) Thanks |

No great differences in the part numbers.
Yes, you can recode Mono to Colour with NavCoder |

Try searching on the nav forum at bimmerboard.com for P/Ns. I think they have been posted there in the past.

I've found lists of part numbers.
I was more wondering if there was any differences, faster, more functionality, those kinds of things. Why are there so many different part numbers for essentially the same part? Thanks |

The different part numbers indicate the OS version originally installed from the factory. Since the OS is upgradeable, all MKIV computers are essentially the same.

Thanks for the help.
went ahead a purchased a unit from elektronik-idee on ebay. It's the earliest part number, but comes with a year warranty and will be coded to my car.

I think your biggest concern should be how old the unit is. If you buy a unit with hundreds or thousands of hours of wear then I wouldn't expect it to last as long as a new unit. Sometimes getting one cheap isn't the wisest move when it comes to these specific parts.

True...
If the drive fails well.. hopefully the repairs are not too expensive. If the electonics fail... my bad luck I guess. Bart |
