Putting a newer nav radio in my Z4, MP3/ID3

If I wanted to upgrade the radio in my Z4 to one that played mp3's and showed ID3 tags on the nav display would I have to do anything special or is it a simple plug an play swap if I got a head unit from a newer Z4 or X3?

Most of the Z4 boards I frequent know very little about the nav, and many people flat out hate the MKIV navigation system.

I'm just curious as to how swappable the components are. It seems that newer radios show a preset list and RDS data in 'the black space'
