Trying to downgrade to get English language choice (instead of Ita Ger Fra)

Hi all.

Apologies for having been away for a while. I sold the previous x (www.x5sport.com) and moved to Italy. But now I'm back

As the title suggests, my Italian spec 2004 E53 3.0D Sport, with all options except, comes without an English OBC or Nav system (now, why would they make a car that way kidding)

The MK IV system is already at v32 (10) but in the language options are only I D F (Italian, Deutch, Francais).

I tried to use the V32 disk but it told me that the system is already up to date. No probs I thought - just downgrade to v31 and then up to V32 using the modded disk I got from Jon a couple of years back (mate did you get my PM?).

Unfortunately even the v31 disk refuses to upgrade the system to English and just gives the same message that the system is up to date. Is there a config file that I can edit before burning the CD to force the upgrade regardless of current OS.

Any suggestions would be very welcome on how to resolve this without a trip to the Italian $dealers and their magic computer? Mind you, I need to go there anyway to get the keys mapped to M1 and M2 seats memories so if its something only they can do....

Thanks in advance guys.

Kev.

another relevant point is that the system doesnt currently read any of the DVDs so a replacement laser is on the way. That said, the OS CD seems to load up ok. Unless the message is a general catchall - due to an unreported CD read error?

Just use NavCoder and load the 3 languages you want

Forcing the system to default values (which is what happens when you do an OS downgrade-upgrade) will give you default languages (DE, EN, FR) but it will also delete the coding data for the nav and you may end up with some functions that don't work properly (ETA, widescreen mode, etc)

And remember: V31 and V32 both contain 4-1/100 software. If you want to force the OS back to default values, use a OS disc earlier than V31 to downgrade, and then use V32 to upgrade.

Thanks Jochen - great to know. So thats why the V31 disk wouldn't downgrade the V32 software. I'll try it with v27 tonight.

Didn't quite get the part about losing widescreen nav (not that I use it normally) but I'd miss the ETA detail for sure. Upgrading back to v32 (English) from v27 should put these features back right?

My days of hacking the i-bus were long since my daughter was born - no time these days . Does Navcoder work just on the nav_sw software locally to the PC without the need to attach the pc to the i-bus?

I'll let you know how I get on with the v27 downgrade tonite.

Thanks again. Kev.

No. An OS update deletes the configuration back to default.
Loading another OS does the same thing again.
Whether default config is correct for your car in your country depends on what car you have and what country you are in.

NavCoder configures the settings in the flash memory inside the nav. It does not and can not change the OS.

Unhappy

Bummer! Downgrading to v27.1 went perfectly.

Rebooted to OS 7.10 but with Italian Deutch and Francais options as before

So I the guess idea of getting English Language loaded on my X by way of an OS change is out - hopefully anyone with a similar need will find this post and get the answer the easy way.

So it's either fork out for an i-bus cable and Navcoder SW, or fork out for the $tealer$ to code it to English. Either way I need to spend more time and money - shame

Thanks anyway Jochen,

Kev

Maybe someone lives near you and can help with the coding. Ask around.

Per quanto ne sappia, devi necessariamente ricodificare. Cambiare versione del software non ha effetto alcuno sulla lingua.

AFAIK, you MUST go by recoding the unit. Switching the OS does not affect the language setup.
