MKIV UPGRADE ISSUES (Long Post)
SW4-1/02, which in all my readings, I haven't seen the 1/02 listed. (I've seen referance to 4-1/91, 4-1/00, but not 4-1/02). Should I learn how to and install V30, or V31? I've also read about Nav Tweak and NavCoder software. Will this correct my issues? I'm very new at this and before these issues, didn't realize recoding could be done, and it's taking a lot of time to read and get a somewhat working knowledge of all this. I am willing to buy the necc. software and connection cables to try and figure this out, but I should could use some guidance and help ubderstanding this. Thanks in advance |

You have multiple issues. Fortunately, most of them are easy. The two biggest things are that 1) You have a modified nav OS that you probably should get rid of (unless you know what it is and want it) and 2) You need to get the MKIV coded for your car...

This requires a two-part solution. First, you need to get an official BMW OS update CD and get your OS to a an official 4-1/00. Second you need to get the nav computer coded so that it has your language preferences loaded. Quote:

NavCoder will fix the coding issues above. That will let you set the proper language preferences and load those into the nav computer. Also, it will let you fix the date thing. (And, I bet your INFO and SELECT buttons don't work either. See the following post. NavCoder will also help you fix that.) Restoring INFO & SELECT is easy; white line may be a screen defect NavTweak is one tool that people use to generate modified OS images. You can use that in the future to tailor it to your liking, but it will not help you fix anything.

Thanks for all the good information. I'm hoping to meet someone or find an Indy shop in Lexington, KY that can assist me. If I do buy the software and connecting cables, I'll still be fumbling around trying to figure out what I'm looking at!

A good indi or a dealer should only charge you about one hour of labor for the coding and OS load. That will fix everything except the buzzing voice. That might be money well spent.

You might also want to contact David Cecil who is in KY and runs the Bimmerboard web site. He also runs e38.org site and he may be able to connect you to someone who could code your system.
