Mate. Random question, but have you by chance got traffic master fitted? This can cause all kinds of issues, the nav system not shutting down is merely one of them. A mate had similar issues with his Champers II, i pulled out the TM system (which he never used) and all was well again. Rather annoyingly BMW hardwired 3 of the wires in, so it means you've got to cut them and terminate the lose wires. 5 minute job to do though.
Anothe culprit for battery drain on the E39 is the FSR by the way! |

hi,
thanx for ur reply. i cant see the trafficmaster so it mustnt have 1. its defo the sat nav as its been disconnected and the battery doesnt drain. when its connected it works great but just doesnt turn off and overnight drains the battery. you can hear the cd reading all the time. the power light flickers as tho it wants to power down then starts up again and keeps reading the cd |

Then it sounds like you need a new drive mate sadly. £100 for a mk3 from the bay of flea.

Nav drive takes 60s after the last activity to power down. It monitors for activity on the doors, boot and keys.
Do not unplug the nav at the period 50s-62s where the LED is flashing and writing the NVRAM, doing so will instantly brick the drive. |
